Weekly Opportunity, During School Hours
The purpose of the UT Elementary School Student Mentoring Program is to provide role models who build relationships with students by providing guidance and support in order to improve academic performance and character development.
When: Any weekday during student’s lunch half-hour. Must be dependable and willing to commit to weekly visits for a full year minimum.
Requirements in addition to background check: Complete a UT Elementary School Mentor application and attend a short training session.
Spend time with our youngest students helping the pre-K teachers with activities such as doing one or all of the following activities: read books, play games, help with art projects or just play along in centers and talk with students introducing new vocabulary.
When: daily opportunities available between 8:30 – 11:15 a.m.
Lil Longhorn Friends (Kinder)
Help those extra special students who would like to spend time with a caring friend who will play phonics games or read to them in the classroom.
When: Weekly, times TBD with teachers based on volunteer’s schedule and school schedule.
Teacher’s Helper (First Grade, special area classrooms)
Assist teacher with instruction by doing whatever is needed – from helping to publish student stories to facilitating student discussion groups, working with gifted and talented groups on special projects or even laminating student work. We can use these volunteers in both first grade as well as in our STEaM class.
When: Weekly or daily, times variable, TBD with teachers based on volunteer’s schedule and school schedule.
Table Captain/Fundraising Event Host
Help UT Elementary support its exemplary programs working with the Development Office on special projects such as hosting fundraisers or inviting friends and family to invest in the school.
