Wellness teacher Rebecca Vore has spearheaded a unique partnership between UT Elementary School, Brooke Elementary (AISD), Metz Elementary (AISD), and Sustainable Food Center to create a new East Austin School Garden Alliance.
The Alliance kicked off at the Sustainable Food Center’s Downtown Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 20, where students learned about sustainability and entrepreneurship through selling fresh produce from their school gardens to the Austin community.
Approximately 15 students from the three schools participated in the event. The Little Longhorn UT String Project also supported the initiative with special musical performances.
“It was such a successful event for the schools that we have agreed to do it again this fall as well as next spring,” says Vore.
