Soon after the start of the school year, we lost two of our biggest supporters—Dr. Brian Bryant and “Grandpa” George Mitchell. Bryant passed away August 24 in Austin and Mitchell on September 14 in Gainesville, Florida. Both men were frequent visitors to UT Elementary School and contributed much to the success of our students. And both seemed the happiest when surrounded by a group of Little Longhorns.
As CEO of the University Co-op, Grandpa George often came to campus bearing gifts for students—new t-shirts and ice cream for all. As a professor of special education, Dr. Bryant freely shared his wisdom and conducted research at the school.
