Teacher of the Year: Bob ‘Coach K’ Knipe
In only his second year of teaching at UT Elementary School, Bob ‘Coach K’ Knipe has established himself as a leader in healthy living not only for students, but for parents, staff, and the greater community.
The lessons that start with Coach K in the gymnasium extend well beyond those walls and into the lives of all that he comes into contact with.
From teaching the littlest of Longhorns to become comfortable and skillful movers to guiding our older students in the process of developing lifelong physical activity habits, Coach K has a way of making healthy living contagious.
Through his work in the after-school program, the WellNest, Coach K has connected twenty families with multiple opportunities to develop and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
He has taken a leadership role in many school wide activities from the garden to Marathon Kids, and has acted as a resource to many teachers and staff who are looking to develop their own skills in healthy living.
One of Coach K’s greatest strengths is his ability to draw people in to an idea and make them truly believe that anything is possible.
Many community partnerships have been developed over the past two years thanks to Coach K’s amazing ability to inspire and connect with people.
Coach K is not only a teacher, but a lifelong learner. He is continuously seeking feedback and knowledge to further develop his own practice and for this reason, will only become a stronger professional as time passes.
The Healthy Families Initiative is strong and continues to grow under Coach K’s guidance. UT Elementary School is fortunate to have him represent them as the 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year! Congratulations Coach K!
