Last Friday, Little Longhorns were treated to a special literary event that coincided with the annual Texas Book Festival. As part of the Reading Rock Stars program, two popular children’s book authors, Steven Weinberg and Emma Otheguy, visited the school to present their works to the students.
Weinberg presented his newest book “Fred and the Lumberjack” to the school’s youngest readers, grades Pre-K through 2. He is also the author of “Rex Finds and Egg! Egg! Egg!,” “You Must be This Tall,” and the illustrator of “Beard Boy.”
The intermediate readers (grades 3-5) enjoyed a reading of Otheguy’s recent book “Marti’s Song for Freedom.” She is a member of the Bank Street Writers Lab, and her short story “Fairies in Town” was awarded a Magazine Merit Honor by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Every student took home an autographed copy, and the library received a set of books to be enjoyed by young readers for many years to come!
The event was made possible by the Texas Book Festival’s Reading Rock Stars Grant. The program brings books to life for young readers in which selected authors from across the country are invited to present their works to students in Title I schools.
