An Evening of Joy, Memories and Milestones for the Little Longhorns
On Wednesday, May 21, UT Elementary celebrated its Fifth Grade Completion and Senior Recognition Ceremony in the Healthy Horns Hall.
Wednesday, May 21 was a night to remember at UT Elementary as we celebrated our amazing fifth graders and welcomed back our graduating seniors from the Class of 2018!
The Fifth Grade Completion and Senior Recognition Ceremony was full of laughter, love, and a few happy tears. Teachers Nicole Hershey and Megan Rangel shared some of their favorite memories from the year—especially the adventures at Outdoor School—and reminded us all just how special this group of Little Longhorns is. They’ll be missed dearly as they head off to middle school!
We also honored someone very dear to our hearts—Ms. Jan Evans. After joining UT Elementary in 2004 and serving in so many roles (2nd–5th grade teacher, Librarian, Gifted & Talented Coordinator, and Reading Interventionist), Ms. Evans is retiring. Founding principal Dr. Ramona Treviño presented her with the Star of Texas Award in recognition of her incredible dedication and impact on our school.

And what a joy it was to welcome back the Class of 2018! This group is extra special to Superintendent Dr. Nicole Whetstone, who was their principal, and to STEAM teacher Kameron Koeffler, who was just starting his teaching journey as a UT student back then. Their stories brought lots of laughs and warm memories. In addition to Gahmoto Malagalila (UT Elementary Class of 2018 and LBJ High School Class of 2025) who was accepted to 22 colleges and received more than $1 million in scholarships, we learned learned that there are at least 2 graduates who will be attending ‘Big UT’ in the fall!

It was a beautiful evening celebrating the journeys of our Little Longhorns—past, present, and future. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll do next!
