On Thursday, November 20, our 2nd through 5th graders experienced the magic of live theater thanks to Big UT. A talented troupe from the UT College of Fine Arts, Texas Theatre and Dance performed “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing”—a whimsical and thought-provoking play written by acclaimed playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer.
This production originally captivated audiences in October at the Brockett Theater on the Forty Acres. Now, the troupe is taking their performance on the road, touring K–12 schools across Central Texas through December 2. We are thrilled that UT Elementary was part of this exciting outreach, giving our students a chance to experience professional theater and explore themes of resilience, imagination, and self-discovery.
About the Play
Three sisters are left in the forest by their woodcutter father. From this fairytale beginning, three resolutions are made—one sister will walk one way, one sister will walk the other, and the third will stay right where she is. Twenty years later, having circumnavigated the globe, fought Vikings, crossed oceans, tamed wilds, and achieved greatness, the three meet again as women.
A charming, fantastical story about the bond of sisterhood, growing up, and finding your own way to happiness.
The performers were amazing and truly knew how to engage our Little Longhorns! Our students were a fantastic audience—paying close attention to every moment, laughing at the jokes, and even sweetly wishing the characters “happy birthday” during the play’s birthday celebrations.
A big thank you to UT College of Fine Arts for bringing the arts into our classrooms and inspiring the next generation of creative thinkers!
